Results of preliminary studies

Although the Pozzolan Dalhousie project is still in the conceptual stage, a few preliminary studies have been conducted to assess the project's viability.

Here are the results of these studies, along with related reports.

Sampling to Date & Additional Sampling Plan, Dalhousie Port West Wharf

The purpose of the plan is to provide a high level overview of the sampling to date, and recommendations for additional sediment samples to be collected from the west wharf at the Port of Dalhousie. In combination with the samples already collected, these additional samples will form a data set to be used in the evaluation of the proper management of dredge sediments.

Feasibility study for maneuvers at Dalhousie's west terminal by Panamax and Lakers

The purpose of this study is to determine if Laker and Panamax type vessels can safely transit the approach channel to the western terminal and what maneuvering space they will need for berthing and unberthing maneuvers at this terminal.

Preliminary Results of Bird and Active Nest Surveys

The study identified 27 species during the observation period. Among them, 24 were seen on and near the site, and 3 species (the American crow, the common raven, and the bald eagle) were observed flying over the site. No active nests were found on the site during the survey.

Unpublished Study

The preliminary study on wildlife and flora was conducted by the Atlantic Canada Conservation Data Centre (AC-CDC), and a report was issued on September 12, 2022. The report cannot be made public due to restrictions imposed by its author. A more detailed study on wildlife and flora will be carried out as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment.
